Details for Data Recovery Expert Certification Class

The class is a One on One Training course that will consist of five days total, two days of lecture and labs where we disassemble two hard drives and attempt to reassemble them into working machines. The third and fourth day will be logical recoveries where we will use the lab computers to image memory sticks for class, there will be other images of drives provided for Raid 0 and Raid 5 recoveries. There will be images provided for NTFS, Mac OSX HFS and EXT3 Linux drives for recovery as well as the previous mentioned sets of images for Raid 5 and Raid 0.

Introduction

The world of data recovery is cloaked in secrecy surrounded by trade secrets. Data recovery is a skill that's very difficult to learn and involves repairing damaged hard drives and recovering corrupted data. Many times it is difficult just to find out how a particular hard drive works.


As a forensics or data recovery community, from time to time we all run into damaged hard drives that are difficult to create an image of. At one time or another, we have all been in that position, where the software hangs and never completes. This is a difficult situation to be in, while lawyers and corporate attorneys or clients are looking over your shoulder. What do you do when you have that type of an error in your drive cannot be copied?

The goal of this class is to teach you how to handle a damaged hard drive and what your options are. We will introduce you to the proper hardware, equipment and software that will give you the best possibility and skills at completing this task.

The class contains the same material and content as the standard classroom.  The difference will be that instead of attending a class in a location, paying for the hotel room, the flight and dinner, you will get all the material on video and MP3s PLUS all the material/tools/equipment used in the class yours to keep.  Since you will not have the advantage of being in the classroom for questions and mentoring, I am scheduling time to answer emails and review content. The book, and the other materials and test will be the same information for your certification.  ....more
