My Hard Drive Died!

The iPhone does not do a lot of things we are use to in a phone. Who's idea was it that you can not collapse folders in the IMAP list. I have 1 gazillion folders, and that list without collapsing is like 25 pages long. Apple, What were you thinking?  

I saw that speech where Steve Jobs says, "It is running OSX and the Browser is the same one you have in Safari!" Ummm, where is Java, Flash, and even just CUT AND PASTE! Steve LIED. This phone is just about unusable as a Mail and PDA Device.

Here is a cool thing to try. Set your phone to vibrate. Go to your contacts list and select a person. Assign a ringtone for that person. Hello? Phone Functions are on Vibrate! We all play with the phone in meetings!

iPhone does not have:

1.   No Cut and Paste?? No Really, No Cut and Paste anywhere. What were they thinking? You guys don't have code for CUT AND PASTE?

2.   No IM or chat apps, only SMS. Hey AIM, MSN, Yahoo Chat they have been around a long time!

3.   No ActiveSync, so no Exchange functions other than download mail. Hey APPLE your mail app just "s u c k s!"  It does not sync over internet so no Calendar, Contacts, and does not reflect changes back to an Exchange Server when you do something like delete a message.  Even Palm has had this for 4 years? This takes us back like 4-5 years to what we are use to on our phones that almost any palm and CE will do.

4.   So far it says it will sync with Outlook, but it only crashes mine with the plug ins it uses. I have tried on three machines and Outlook Plug-in to iTunes just Crashes! Unacceptable.

5.   Safari Does not have Java, Flash. Again, where is the real version of the web.

6.   No sending Photos except in Emails. 

7.   If you disable the service or take out the Sim Card, the phone will not even function as a IPOD. It is a paperweight, unless....

8.   There is almost no options to change anything, like what time NOT to get emails, like get ALL emails in my box, size of fonts. I like to have my email on a schedule.

9.   Cannot edit Word, etc. Can Read, but not edit. And since you cannot cut and paste, you cannot read a section and paste it to email.

10.  Cannot shrink folder lists in IMAP, Exchange Client.  It does not have a plus sign to expand and shrink folders.

11.  Cannot do anything with the camera but take a picture. No zoom, not edit, not much at all but look at it. It does take a good picture.

12.  There is a limit to the items you can IMAP download in email. Max was 200, not by date, or anything else, just a count=200, and you can only do it as little as 15 mins or manual? What is wrong with options??

13: NO OPTION for hand writing notes??  Did APPLE not make the Newton? The first version of a hand held?  What about just a little drawing app? What, you didn't have some code for this too?

14: No Remote Desktop App 

15: No Search in anything.  How do you find that guy in contacts?

16: Speed Dial, etc.

 What it does have:

1.   Gorgeous Screen, best I have ever seen. But since you cannot change the size of fonts and stuff, it is wasting real estate for people who are use to small text.

2.   Good IPod, with a small speaker.

3.   Good Photo Viewer.

4.   Can watch YouTube, get stocks and weather fast

5.   Voicemail is cool, it downloads to the phone when you get it so you can be out of area and still here them.

6.   Great Maps and directions, but no GPS.

7.   Web is decent, although no Java or Flash. The Pinch thing is cool, Scrolling is cool.

8.   Switches from EDGE to Wireless automatically.

9.   Has Bluetooth, but I don't see dialup networking on it.

10. Missing most functions of other phones, and added the media to this one. It would be good if they put ActiveSync on this thing.

11.  Some cool Phone Functions.

12.  Rotates web pages and viewing stuff.

In Short to fix my problems, I need Flash, Java, ActiveSync, Cut and Paste, and Outlook Sync and for god sakes "SEARCH". At least it makes a phone call.
